Edward Snowden served for nearly a decade with the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the National Security Council as an expert on technology and cybersecurity. In 2013 he revealed that the NSA was seizing the private records of billions of people who were not suspected of any wrongdoing, resulting in the most significant reforms to US surveillance policy since 1978. He has been widely honored for his courage, integrity, and public service, and in 2013 he was named the top global thinker by Foreign Policy magazine. Today he works on safeguarding human rights through the development and use of new technologies. Snowden joined the board of Freedom of the Press Foundation in 2014 and became its president in 2016.
